New Sanctuary Movement in Europe
Healing and Sanctifying Movement in the Churches

Inspired by the experiences of the Sanctuary Movement in the USA, the practice of church asylum found its way to Europe. In many European countries there are parishes, grassroot movements and networks engaged in the protection and rights of refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented migrants.

In view of the Europeanisation of asylum legislation, in times of inner-European deportations, based on the Dublin II regulation, and the European policy of “closed doors” exchange of ideas between people gets more and more important. Which challenges are we facing? Where and in which way can we become effectively active? How well can we accompany individual cases across borders? Which forms of protection have proved to work in particular regions? What are the difficulties? Where can we mutually strengthen one another?

The conference brings together experts and guests from different countries. It‘s goal is to exchange experiences
of working with the church asylum, to look at political frameworks and to create action strategies. We are inviting you to a long-term network in the form of a European-wide platform on church asylum. There will be many opportunities to get informed and exchange ideas, for example during the inputs from the panel, during working groups and throughout the whole programme.
The conference will take place within year of european churches for migration 2010.

We cordially invite you!
