The Christian Daily awards a new ‘Initiative Prize’

19/07-2010

Readers invited to choose among 7 entries

Winner of the Initiative Prize 2010

160 innovations have been nominated for a new award given by the national newspaper, Christian Daily, for the best initiative in a Christian context. Seven proposals have been selected by an expert panel to be voted on by the newspaper’s readers before June 23rd.  They were:

1.    Fill Denmark’s churches

On the island of Lolland church services are experiencing an increase in attendance as a result of last year’s initiative to make the last Sunday in September a special day, specifically to fill the usual half-empty churches.

2.    Church Holiday Aid

The organisation Joint Church Care is helping the less well-off to have a good summer holiday. With the support of the Labour Market Holiday Fund 180 families had a holiday in 2009 – a good experience and a fresh start for many families.

3.    Green Church
Green Church offers inspiration for churches, organisations, and individuals to put climate and the environment on the church agenda – both in a daily and a worship context as well as in relation to church buildings.

4.    Parish life in Kirke Saaby and Kisserup

The Zealand parish is a good example of how to renew church life through various initiatives to attract all ages.

5.    C.A.R. Christians are Repairing
Roskilde Baptist Church has set up a car workshop where boys with learning difficulties can help less well-off families to repair their cars.

6.    Prayer for Danish soldiers

In 2009 Denmark’s bishops issued a new prayer for soldiers serving abroad and their relatives back home.

7.    Sigurd Barrett’s Bible Stories
Six Bible stories re-told for children, including a music cd.This is a good attempt to pass on the Christian stories to children in a time, when they do not necessarily hear about them at home.
