New Head of International Relations Secretariat of ELC Denmark

Mr. Jørgen Skov Sørensen, the present Secretariat Director for the Council on International relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark will resign from his post as his fixed-term service terminates by the end of March this year .

Mr. Birger Nygaard has been appointed by the Council as Mr. Skov Sørensen´s successor. Mr. Nygaard will take up his new position as Secretariat Director by April 1st.

55-years old Birger Nygaard holds academic degrees in theology and intercultural studies. He will be well-known internationally by many already as a result of his many years of service in the areas of Christian mission, ecumenism and international cooperation between churches.

Birger Nygaard is already a staff member at the Council on International Relations having been employed since 2012 with a particular view to the missional activities af ELC Denmark and not least to the special focus project of the Council concerning freedom of religion and belief and the persecution of believers. 

Jørgen Skov Sørensen will take up a post at the Research and Education Centre of ELCD (FUV) by April. 

An open farewell and welcome reception marking the shift of Secretariat Director will be organized by the Council at the HQ Thursday 26th March at 2-4 pm.
